Calcio Rombo Quarter Finals

B2(I) vs A2(I)
1st match into the quarters, A2 started on the backfoot with a team that looked like a team straight out of Hogwarts playing a match of Quidditch. But what was in store was sheer purist’s delight. Led ably by the two Rahuls, A2 gave an unexpected fight to a team which seemed battle hardened. It was a lop sided contest between the strong attack of B2 against what seemed a very fragile defence of A2. It can very well be said the match wasn’t matched at all. But full points for the grit of A2 for fighting it out against all odds. 3 long hits from the strong forwardline of B2 found their places inside the goalpost, it was all never a game for the nerdy A2 after that. It was a win for the attack of B2 which always seemed to be on a different platform altogether.
Result: B2(I) won 3-0

A1(II) vs A1(I)
After the last quarter final which went into penalty shootout everybody expected the all finance affair to be as exciting as the previous one. The seniors were sporting enough to wait for an hour to let the juniors assemble the team.
Nevertheless match started and as expected the match was full of energy with seniors primarily attacking and the juniors catching them on the counter attack a couple of times. However, into the middle of the first half , Amitabha scored with a brace from midfield. The first half ended with junior A1 a goal down.
In the second half the juniors changed their strategy from a 3-2-2 formation to a more attacking 2-3-3 formation. This helped as there were a lot more shots on target by the juniors with a shot from Gauhar (junior) hitting the post. But this was as close they got to score a goal. In the end seniors won the game and qualified for the semifinal stage.
Result: A1(II) won 1-0

B3(I) vs IB(I)
The match started at a fairly brisk pace with IB team creating a nice move but to their bad luck the ball hit the bar. B3 were not to be outdone and a brilliant header just missed the goal posts by whiskers. The match continued on even note and both team scored once before the final whistle. Shalabh hit the goal for IB and B3 got theirs through the Penalty kick before that setting the stage for an exciting penalty shoot out. Here IB came to their elements with 4 straight hits to goal by Baiju, Dhananjay, Shalabh and Rahul while B3 could manage only once through Siddhartha. Thus IB wrapped the business in style to reach the semis.
Result: IB won the Match 1-1(4-1).

B2(II) vs B3(II)
A scorching sun wasnt a deterrent for a change, with supporters for both the sides coming out in huge numbers to shout for their teams or rather shout each other out. At first it seemed B2 supporters were winning the battle hands down and the enthu rubbed on to the players on field as well and what followed was a series of attacks from the reds, a solid play was followed by a header by Ganesh which just brushed past the posts. But the luck for the Blacks finally ran out and a right footer off a rebound off goalie found the back of the net. While Ganesh opened his account, Dada not one to be left behind sent down a scorcher, minutes before the halftime, but was unlucky to see it go past the bars.1-0 into halftime 2nd half started with “Buland Bharat ki Buland Tasveer” Ajmera netting one in and immediately after, a mistake on the part of B3 goalie resulted in another goal. It sealed the fate of B3 and it could never recover from the onslaught.
Result: B2(II) won 3-0
